OBRA GAD

TREK

The Obra Gad valley runs parallel to the Harkidun Valley. Jakhol is located close to Obra Gad. Every year, with utmost reverence and reverie, villagers undertake a pilgrimage from Jakhol to the head of Obra Valley. The trail to the head of the valley initially goes through forest sections and later gives way to meadows. This is where you get to see the views of ridge lines and mountain ranges. You can’t miss the sight of Ranglana (5400 M), a shapely peak. As you gain height you reach Devkyari, which is a sprawling meadow close to 4 km long and wide by a couple of kilometres. Devkyari is surrounded by several peaks in all directions and is the key highlight of the trek. For trekkers looking out for more serious challenges there are opportunities to cross the ridge towards the east into Harkidun and also the ridge towards the west into Supin valley. Obra Gad is a mountaineer’s dream and delight as there is a litany of unclimbed and unnamed peaks of varying difficulty. The return trek to Jakhol can also be made through a high ridge route completing a visit into an area, which is seldom visited.
