Harmukh 5142m is one of the highest peaks in the Kashmir Valley and is known for its impressive architecture. Most climbers regard it as technically the most challenging mountain to climb. Mt. Harmukh is considered a sacred mountain by the people of Kashmir, particularly the Kashmiri Pandit community who believe that Lord Shiva meditated on the mountain and attained enlightenment. The objective of the Harmukh Traverse is to approach the peak from the South and exit from a trail leading towards the North. The additional objective is to explore 5 high altitude lakes which surround the peak some of which are rarely visited.
